With snow on D.C. grounds AGAIN, it’s fair to assume that we all share the same springtime itch. It WILL happen, so let’s consider these last moments prime time to ready our calendars and wardrobes, shall we?

ONE. Check out Design Sponge’s guide to our fair city, authored and illustrated by some of my favorite local artist-creatives. Spring is the time to fall in love with D.C. all over again.

TWO. Georgetown continues to kill it–Frye and Goorin Bros. opened brick-and-mortars recently, just-opened Fiola Mare brings a serious dining option to the waterfront, and the BID announced ambitious plans for the next 15 years. The latest shop to the ‘hood is Calypso St. Barth, purveyor of boho-lux clothes, accessories, home… This ‘Arabesque’ clutch (pictured above) is a study in soft structure, and this lace caftan is well…..it’s amazing.

THREE. POLITICO just announced that Women Rule–the multiplatform series examining women’s roles, perspectives, and contributions–will continue another year and will expand to New York and San Francisco (big thumbs ups to Google and The Tory Burch Foundation, the series partners). I went to err, every event this past season and am already inspired by what’s to come.

FOUR. Trumpet flounce! Pattern! Length! This House of Holland Starburst skirt is what I want to wear this spring and forever.

FIVE. Gilt City’s Warehouse Sale is Saturday, March 8 at Long View Gallery. Tickets ($10) are still on sale, and you should go. But I didn’t act fast enough to get the Friday night ticket!, you say. Well, I have a secret to tell: they pull new stuff out for each sale! Expect clothes and accessories for men and women, as well as goods for home and kids.

It’s 12/22, which means that about right now you’re just a liiiiitle behind on the holiday shopping thing. Not to worry! Here are some shoppable options whether you’re ordering from the comfort of your pajamas or venturing out into the streets of the city.

{Robot Flip Clock, $110 from the Corcoran Gift Guide}

Corcoran Holiday Gift Guide. Obviously I’m biased, but there are some SERIOUSLY good items here, most under $50, including experiential suggestions (not everyone wants “stuff”). Gifts are curated by category and you can shop ’em online OR see them in person at the Corcoran today til 5 (ice skate indoors while there!).

Magazines. It’s the gift that keeps on giving! I’m loving Cherry Bombe for fashion/food lovers, Modern Farmer magazine for foodie, small-town-wannabes, and Garden & Gun because it’s awesome. Whatever the choice, buy one copy or some small item related to it, print out a card indicating the subscription and boom, instant gift.

Right now in DC: Try SWANK over at Wild Hand Workspace if you need hip jewelry in the “badass-but-elegant” category.

Also, speaking of swank: The Collection at Chevy Chase is hosting an adorable day with Santa (and his elves, and carolers) from 12 to 3. Kids and pets get free Polaroids of a visit with Santa, there’s complimentary gift wrap for up to three packages, and complimentary food and drinks. Go!

Happy holidays,
Rachel

Fashionable Happenings, Fall Edition

It’s fall, and with the cooler temps and changing leaves come chunky knits and a whole lot of fashionable to-dos for your calendar. Grab a pumpkin-spice beverage and get ready. Here are some things I’m interested in this week:

Spanx’s new line of legwear. Wax-coated jeans have always sounded really cool and edgy but also um, painful to wear. So when Spanx alerted me to their new line of legwear, which includes waxed-denim leggings, I was intrigued. I suppose you could call them jeggings, but apparently these come with butt-enhancing qualities! And how great with oversized knits up top? Sign me up, yall. There’s an event tomorrow at Tyson’s with bloggers from Spicy Candy DC hosting. I plan to get my hands on a pair and dutifully report back.

Thread at Union Market. Union Market, which already features fancy sodas and oysters and cheeses is testing out the retail game with Thread, “an expertly curated retail salon” that will bring together “local independent retailers and national brands, and will feature a variety of participants in the fashion, beauty, lifestyle, art and home arenas.” Sounds uuuuuuuhhawesome. The pop-up extends over the weekend of November 29 – December 1 and kicks things off with a concert by D.C. natives The Walkmen. Above: The “Prince” necklace from St. Clair Jewelry, a friend and one of the vendors. #want!

DeNada’s Autumn/Winter line. Local designer Virginia Arrisueno’s line of alpaca knits are super chunky, super luxurious and completely perfect for the season. Despite a cold (and the cold), I made it out last night to her studio to congratulate her on the line and her new gorgeous website. Virginia is so stinkin’ nice that you wanna buy everything for just that reason alone. Spotted at the party: Washingtonian style editor Michelle Thomas in amazing boots from this season’s District Sample Sale.
