I love this guy.

He goes by Hollywood, you might remember him.

He’s fascinating to talk to; we must have talked for 45 minutes there on the corner of 14th & P before heading in to Sav-On for a beer (he introduced me to the owner, whose name he insisted is also Sav-On).

Anyway, while we were in there another customer stopped to say hello and said that she’d seen Hollywood ever since she was a little girl growing up in NE Washington. It was like she was meeting a movie star a little bit. I love what she said next: “He is just himself. Northeast, Southeast, Northwest, Southwest, he IS Washington.”

Corcoran students with a talented tattoo artist friend–both of their tattoos were “works in progress,” which is interesting because it’s something you just don’t see much of. I kind of like the way their tattoos look just like this, kind of stripped down.

Hers in the style of Sailor Jerry (I check out the site once in a while and I’m currently digging this).

Definitely one of my favorite photos of late. Don’t they all look like they’re in a band & she’s the lead singer?

I like that their looks and expressions reveal a hint of each person’s personality.

I think her hair is the best accessory of all.

This photo really shows the variety of styles that you might see at an Ethiopian wedding celebration. The older women on the left are wearing the more traditional dresses, while the other two women wear more modern, Westernized outfits. All of their outfits were custom-made by local Ethiopian dressmakers; the woman in the short dress had hers made at a clothier on 14th Street.

I love the pink color of the dress on the right…it reminds me of the cherry blossom petals, which have begun to shed and layer the sidewalks in a kind of Spring snow:
