New Vintage Game in Town: Soul.eil

I keep ideas for photoshoot concepts and locations in a list on my phone, and one of them came to life before my eyes a few weeks ago. It was the first perfect, warm-but-not-hot spring Sunday and I took a blanket and a book to Meridian Hill Park to enjoy the weather and the sounds of the park. Summer Sundays there mean the rhythmic, contagiously joyful sounds of the drum circle, a tradition carried on for God-knows-how-long, involving dozens of drummers and kids and people from the community dancing, letting loose, and kicking off the week right. It is truly special and a rite of passage for Washingtonians (so, go if you haven’t before!). And on this particular day, there were 4 or 5 beautiful women swanning about and dancing in awesomely eclectic vintage getups while their photographers and videographers captured the moment. They added the visuals to the music and it was just sensational–I’d always wanted to stage the exact same shoot!

They were there for the soon-to-launch Soul.eil Vintage, a new concept by local Hannah Attia (a former a buyer for Annie Creamcheese; RIP). In addition to pop-up events, she promises a “lifestyle site as well as e-commerce, where site visitors can also experience the works of unsigned artists, poets, and musicians.” The project will support her nonprofit, Ark, also launching this summer. Here are the details of their inaugural pop-up/launch:
