Things Are Not What They Seem//GIVEAWAY

Spring is a time to shake off winter’s seriousness and switch to pieces that are lighter and more lighthearted. Here’s a roundup of fresh, unexpected and personality-filled spring things.

ONE This Chloe Textured-Satin blouse looks lifted from a coloring book, but is also totally classic and gimmick-free. Brilliant.

TWO JORD’s Ely watch is made from Maple and feels light as a feather. **GIVEAWAY! See below for details.**

THREE Samantha Pleet’s Chambray Oath Romper. It’s a dress. It’s a romper. It’s the first I’ve seen that is long enough for most normal people. DISCUSS. It’s carried by ANTHOM, which opens its first brick-and-mortar this week at Virginia’s Mosaic District.

FOUR This spring and summer, I want to spend as much time as possible reclining on porches/at the beach in piles & piles of throwbeds. A wha? A throwbed. It is a bed/slash/pillow/sleeping-bag-like-thing for fabulous grownups. I first heard about them via this profile in The New York Times, of fabulous grownup Lorraine Kirke, and they recently crossed my path again.

FIVE These Rebecca Minkoff Curbs Front Back stud earrings are work in front, play in back and are an awesomely subversive take on your basic pearl stud. And at $58, the cost-per-wear on these babies will be next to nothing.

SIX Shakuhachi’s Lost Her Marble dress looks like marble and is actually leather. Let’s just say you won’t find this marble on the Hill. It’s available via Nasty Gal, where you can also obtain a copy of founder Sophia Amoruso’s new book, #GirlBoss. It’s sounds like the creative, entrepreneur everygirl’s answer to Lean In and I’m itching to get my hands on a copy.

SEVEN Jump From Paper’s Giggle bag inspired this post. I first spotted one on a Corcoran College of Art and Design student and ran her down to find out more. They look like they were plucked from the pages of a comic book, yet thick, canvas-like fabric and roomy construction make them totally wearable. Your everyday bag is suddenly look-of-the-day, every day.

EIGHT This is Mink, a small, 3D printer that allows you to make your own makeup, and will cost between $200-300. It was invented by Harvard Business School student Grace Choi and you can read all about it here at TechCrunch.

** I’m giving away one of these JORD Ely watches! Here are the rules: leave a comment here on this post and follow me on a social platform of choice (Instagram or Twitter) and one of JORD’s (Twitter, Instagram, Facebook). The winner will be announced next Wednesday, May 14, at noon. Good luck!

UPDATE: Congrats to Jim, our winner! Thanks to everyone for entering.
