Calypso, Take me Away

Artwork at Calypso Georgetown DC

{In addition to boho-luxe resortwear, the Georgetown location of Calypso St. Barth boasts a whimsical, feminine aesthetic aided in part by works like Feathers by French artist Paule Morrot.}

The other week, I had the pleasure of being invited to check out the new, light-filled Calypso St. Barth store, located on M Street in the heart of bustling Georgetown. With movie-montage-visions of my upcoming trip to the Virgin Islands in July playing in my mind, I tried on a few beautiful pieces before settling on the Ladora embellished linen tunic to bring home (thank you, Calypso!). When I think of Calypso, I think of their sophisticated and elegant tunics–and the Ladora is perfectly cut: narrow at the shoulders (meaning: it’s loose it only the right places), weightless but also substantial, and features an invisible little hook-and-eye in the center neckline for a fit that falls perfectly against the chest.

I took my time (easy to do in the roomy, nicely lit and pretty dressing rooms), channeled my inner Martha Graham in the silky ‘Sarah’ dress and fell pretty hard for the “Isoli” linen jersey dress, which I would describe as essentially the most perfect-fitting tshirt, but in a dress. Sexy but somehow also casual, and just as easy as wearing pajamas. (swoon!)
