Alex Prager takes D.C. (in Bottega Veneta)

One thing you should do before you die–or at least before March 9–is decamp to the Corcoran Gallery of Art to see the work of LA-based artist Alex Prager. Her first solo museum exhibition in the U.S. is on view, Face in the Crowd, and while I’m biased as the Corcoran’s PR director, it’s a gorgeous, complex and immersive project. Those of us who are fascinated with the space between our private and public selves (and vintage clothing and styling) will relish this show, which includes an 11-minute, 3-channel video projection featuring actress Elizabeth Banks that brings Prager’s cinematic images to life.

The show was sponsored by Bottega Veneta and W, so enjoy these snaps of Alex in a gorgeous black Bottega frock, W editor Stefano Tonchi and a crew of stylish gents, and others. If you’re into her work, don’t miss the “Touch of Evil” video project she made for T, the New York Times magazine, in 2011.

A great date to come out is next month’s Corcoran Uncorked (Feb. 19)–an amped-up monthly cultural Happy Hour. This one’s inspired by Alex’s film inspirations. It’s a tribute to Alfred Hitchcock; expect movie trivia, a chance to print your own vintage movie poster, screenings of “Rear Window” and “The Birds,” and a tour of the show.
