I do love a yellow gown on a red carpet. What better to convey It-Girl-status – or trumpet an “I’m back!” reemergence from romantic-heartbreak-fallout – than a canary-yellow frock on a crimson background?
To wit: Jessica Chastain in Zac Posen at Cannes, as featured in August Vogue, Reese Witherspoon in Nina Ricci at the 2007 Golden Globes, and Michelle Williams in Vera Wang at the 2006 Oscars.

My new favorite thing to wear when it’s unbearably hot? A vintage cotton bustier! I wore mine to our pop-up this weekend – which was fabulous, thank you to everyone who came out – and got a ton of compliments. I’m telling you, there is nothing more fun, fashionable and heat-proof than one of these retro pieces. Wear one with a high-waist pair of shorts or a skirt for more femme/pinup effect. I found mine on Etsy; there’s a similar one here, a less girlie version in leather here and a really cute gingham one here.

Butler + Claypool will set up shop at the ReadySetDC fashion mixer this Sunday. We’ll be selling awesome stuff. Get it’s while it’s hot (and damn, is it hot).

Before I left for the beach, we hosted two back-to-back private parties at Pretty People (Facebook here).

Carla from The President Wears Prada shows off cute accessories (love the red plastic bow belt).

I just came back from a weeklong vacation on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. I read The Help, ate way too many hushpuppies, played with my adorable niece Sammy, lamented the sad selection at the Barree Station in Duck (no more J.Crew, and no more tent sales! I miss the good ol’ days), breathed in the seascape and accompanying seafoam (to match my pedicure, natch), admired green pond moss that looked lice lace and sparkled like glitter at sunset, and was, as always, a sucker for great packaging.
