Cat Revival

I found this advertisement for Lanvin’s My Sin at the DC Big Flea the other weekend. I love the deco bottle and the mod cats in the campaign – the first time I’d seen them associated with the label. I was familiar with the mother-daughter motif because of Ariel Levy’s wonderful piece on Alber Elbaz in The New Yorker, but these fabulous vintage cats, as well as the seductively subversive perfume, were all new to me.

Now it appears the cats are back, slinking their way into Lanvin’s fall 2009 ad campaign (images via Fashion Gone Rogue).

Wouldn’t it be fabulous if these black cats crossing Kristen McMenamy’s (a classic in her own right, also enjoying a revival of late) well-heeled path meant that the label is thinking of reintroducing the intoxicating-sounding fragrance? The current mood in fashion – edgy, mysterious, wholly grown-up – certainly makes a strong case for bringing My Sin back to market. And while a reintroduction of the perfume might be a stretch, I’m curious to see how the black cat will play out in future marketing/product. In the meantime, you can get your Lanvin feline fix on eBay.

Summer of Love.

Ahhhhhh, sand and surf. I read, I ate, I swam. Not one to disappoint, I even shopped. I feel like I need these vacations more and more as time goes by, and I’m determined to learn to hold on to that feeling of relaxed rejuvenation as much as I can in my “normal” life.

Today, in honor of the 40-year anniversary of Woodstock, beachiness, and all things gypset, I pulled out this dress that belonged to my mother (incidentally, I feel like I’ve seen quite a few 1969-goes-2009 versions of this dress recently…on Jessica Joffe and at the U Street boutique Lettie Gooch). I’m adding a champagne-colored silk sash at the waist (thanks, Betsy!) and tons of gold chains. Tonight I’m having my sister Rallie and her girl Tez over for dinner…I think I’ll serve angel food cake with whipped cream and strawberries. Mmmm…

Peace, love and the ocean,

Sample Sale

{who’s that girl in the photo? Why, it’s PB friend Sarah of The District Domestic!}

The District Sample Sale is back! If you’ve never been, it’s definitely something you should do at least once. If you’ve been, well, you’ll probably be back. I always seem to find something fabulous. Last time, it was a high-waisted black brocade skirt that fits like it was hand-sewn for my body, and it was around $40. Aside from the shopping itself, it’s a real scene (search “District Sample Sale” or “DSS” in the Search to read more). The beneficiary this go-round is Rachael’s Women’s Center, recently named one of the best small charities in the DC region. Tickets here.
