Cat Revival
Tuesday, August 11, 2009

I found this advertisement for Lanvin’s My Sin at the DC Big Flea the other weekend. I love the deco bottle and the mod cats in the campaign – the first time I’d seen them associated with the label. I was familiar with the mother-daughter motif because of Ariel Levy’s wonderful piece on Alber Elbaz in The New Yorker, but these fabulous vintage cats, as well as the seductively subversive perfume, were all new to me.
Now it appears the cats are back, slinking their way into Lanvin’s fall 2009 ad campaign (images via Fashion Gone Rogue).

Wouldn’t it be fabulous if these black cats crossing Kristen McMenamy’s (a classic in her own right, also enjoying a revival of late) well-heeled path meant that the label is thinking of reintroducing the intoxicating-sounding fragrance? The current mood in fashion – edgy, mysterious, wholly grown-up – certainly makes a strong case for bringing My Sin back to market. And while a reintroduction of the perfume might be a stretch, I’m curious to see how the black cat will play out in future marketing/product. In the meantime, you can get your Lanvin feline fix on eBay.

I truly ‘heart’ you for this posting. This fragrance has been a long standing scentsation family from my Grandmother down to myself!
Great find. I was dying to check out the Big Flea but was sadly out of town. Any other great find from the market?
