The Future is Now.

This video from the 30s on “futuristic fashions” (for year 2000) is so oddly and awesomely relevant. A white jumpsuit (cinched with a MObama-worthy black belt) in the season’s gently pleated, tapered pant! A dress in transparent net with swirl detail (hello, Preen Fall 2009!), asymmetric zippers! Crazy cutout wedge heels! Strong shoulders everywhere! I am totally loving this video at the moment.

And the male outfit even has a handsome belt with Blackberry/iPhone carrying case!

I think my favorite part is the posh faux-British voiceover narration with snarky quips.

There should be a Project Runway challenge for fashion of the 2080s …

Meant to add, in addition to the Preen, this awesome, memorable look from Alexander Wang Spring 2009: http://nymag.com/fashion/fashionshows/2009/spring/main/newyork/womenrunway/alexanderwang/#slide15&ss1

It’s one of the reasons I now own a mesh bodysuit, though now I need things to wear it with…

I totally get why you’re loving this video right now. I definitely agree with Heidi’s comment that there should be Project Runway: The Future challenge. That would be awesome.
