Honfleur-Flaunt Final(2)

I’ve been working on a photography/fashion collaboration event with Honfleur Gallery and Ten Miles Square and here are all the details!! The designer and photo teams have been staging all kinds of cool photo shoots on the streets, inside in studios and God-knows where else, and the result will be revealed Saturday, April 25 at Honfleur. Then in June, a fashion presentation. The idea of this collaboration being to present different ideas of fashion portraiture while celebrating the artful, creative side of fashion.

Flaunt: Photography & Fashion Collaboration
Opening April 25, 7 p.m. (Free and open to the public/DJ Felipe/)

Runway Show and Closing Reception June 6, 7 p.m. ($10/DJ/pop-up boutique/goodies)

The designers! More on them PLUS the amazing photographers in future posts. For now:

Lara of L-Shandi – known for africhic clothes in styles that are both modern and vaguely retro at once…we’ve scoped her stuff in Lucky, and seen the goods at Caramel on U St.

Dana of Artistic AYA – Triple threat: paints & sketches, crafts jewelry, designs clothes…obviously, I’m a fan (read: April 26 event).

Taimur of Mirza Mperial – Worked at Kenneth Cole at one point, and his looks have this great refined, girly, retro-thing going on (that was a photo taken from a show he did that I posted last night!!)

Will Sharp/the guys of Durkl. They have do eighties-hipster like nobody’s business (at your heart out, Marc) and will bring some serious attitude. This show is all about attitude. Bring it!

St. John

I went to Neiman Marcus for a St. John presentation and to meet Marie Gray, the line’s long-term designer. I was surprised by how much I liked the suits – they were beautifully made, with gorgeous feminine flourishes. The models looked youthfully fresh in them. As one partygoer said, “this isn’t your mother’s St. John.” Indeed!

You know that traditional St. John knit fabric? It’s pretty amazing stuff, and lasts forever. And it can change with you: did you know that it can be stretched to the wearer’s liking, at something called a “block party”? Stores will put on these events, and women can bring in their St. John and have it stretched (and I think it can be shrunk, as well). Amazing stuff, that fabric!

Sunday Funday PARTY

Remember the sketch I posted last week? I got more than a few emails asking if they were mine (ha!). It is the work of local designer Dana Greaves, who has more talent in her pinky finger than I have in my entire person. Local arts maven Philippa Hughes chose that design from the series of five beautiful sketches above, to wear over Inauguration weekend. How glamorous to have a designer submit sketches and design a custom, dream dress for you?! So wonderfully fairytale, don’t you think?

I’m SO EXCITED to unveil the particulars of our *Sunday-Funday launch of her clothing-art line on April 26. Come for crazy, unadulterated style (Philippa and others will be platform modeling…ooh), live music (local band Tennis System and DJ Collins Hughes, who you may know from Marvin on Weds nights), swag, pop-up boutique shopping, endless Champagne & beer, and more, all to benefit Pediatric AIDs.
