Freebie Weekend: Clothes from Chickdowntown
Saturday, April 25, 2009

There’s so much going on this weekend: the Flaunt opening tonight, and the Get Trunk party on Sunday in Adams Morgan. In fact, the two items in this very awesome giveaway from Chickdowntown would be great to wear to either. First up, one of the gorgeous Tolani scarves from the site, and a super-soft tee from Nation LTD. Nothing beats a perfect, white, soft cotton t-shirt.
As much as I’m totally dying to add both of these to my own wardrobe, one of you lucky ladies deserves it more. So tell us what you’d wear it with, and where you’d go. I’ll choose the winner Monday around 11 AM. Here’s what I’d do:
White t-shirts remind me of summer in such a delicious way – ideally, I’d throw it on over a bikini top after a full day at the beach on the Outer Banks with my family. I’d be on the deck of our old beach house (sold years ago now) with a gin & tonic in one hand, a slice of watermelon in the other, the scarf tossed loosely around neck, blowing in the breeze as I watch the sun set. My hair will have, of course, achieved that perfect, salt-infused wavy pieciness that’s impossible to re-create with hair products.
Sigh. Anyone want to give me a vacation?

These would be the perfect pieces to wear to an interview I have next Saturday. I just received a call this morning saying that the owner of a high-end boutique would like to interview me after I applied for a position with them yesterday! I have already decided that I am going to wear my boyfriend chinos from J. Crew and some semi-gladiator platform sandals. I will probably add a blazer of some sort. But this tee and scarf combination would be the perfect touch for the rest of the outfit.
Even if I don’t win, I am really excited about the interview and would appreciate your input as to what I should wear. The winner will be so lucky – that scarf is especially to die for!
Thanks for doing this!
I have a simpler vision for these unbelievably chic pieces of flare: I’d toss the tee on top of distressed stove-pipe denims, cuffed above the ankle with fierce pair of metallic gladiators on foot. Then I’d add a cross-body bag, sleek black wayfarers I’m eying from Banana Republic, and that fabulous scarf for mimosas and a trot down M street. Preferably today!
I would pair the white t-shirt with the perfect pair of shorts and sandals, and use the scarf as a bracelet. nice big round sunglasses to top off the look. and an oversized hat!! an obvious beach outfit
or a walk down the streets of georgetown. haha.
I’m a firm believer in print scarves with white v-neck tees to begin with–so excellent choice!
This would be great with a pair of destroyed wash skinny legs and my awesome *new* brown snakeskin cutout platform booties. Throw on some gold ethnic-inspired bracelets and a gold locket with long chain, Anna Sui perfume to keep it femme, and some bed-head hair to complete the look.
I would go to an outdoor cafe in soho to bask in the sun (and stares of envy/lust).
I still have to bring a sweater or scarf to class right now, as the rooms are freezing cold but outside it’s warming up so I think that these would be fantastic for class. Pair them with skinny jeans, leather flip flops, a ring and some earrings and you’re good to go!
Hi! I’d definitely wear the Tolani scarf (around the neck) with the Nation LTD Tee and throw a denim jacket over it, since denim jackets are back. Or I could throw a black boyfriend jacket over the look.
Or, I’d wear the Nation LTD Tee with a pair of the skinny distressed jeans like the ones that were shown at Balmain for Spring 2009 with an arm full of colorful bangles that would compliment the Tolani scarf that I could use as a belt.
Cool contest!!
I’d wear this on a lazy Sunday morning on my living room sofa (post-coffee pre-bloody mary), reading the newspaper in my white cotton boyshorts, with the scarf wraped fabously around my head like Little Edie from “Gray Gardens.”
Imagine flying through a busy airport wearing this comfy T, this scarf to ward off the chills, paired w/ boyfriend jeans and ballet flats. Now I just need to find my suitcase and I’d be set to travel anywhere.
I would wear the scarf and tee combo on the plane next week as I travel back to Antigua for another semester abroad. It would be the perfect jet setting duo as the scarf would be great for the non adjustable temperatures on the plane. There’s no better way to disguise comfort than with a statement piece like that scarf. Not only would it look great and effortless on the plane, it would look chic when getting off the plane, especially with the colder temperatures as the door opens just before dawn – in time for the sunset and the colder nightly Caribbean temperatures.
I would pair this with simple skinny jeans and a pair of sandals I just got from target (http://www.target.com/Mossimo-Penina-Gladiator-Sandals-Tan/dp/B001GIDN36/ref=sc_ri_1?ie=UTF8&pf_rd_r=096ASARAFXQ9TFBEZW2T&pf_rd_p=471801791&pf_rd_i=B001GILWXY&pf_rd_s=bottom-10&pf_rd_m=A1VC38T7YXB528&pf_rd_t=201) Looking great doesn’t require brand names from head to toe!
And to top this off, I’d wear a ring I got from the Dominican Republic made of larimar, a stone unique to the country.
I’m heading to Barcelona in early June for a week, and am told that on-the-street fashion there is both fun and formidable. The scarf would add a nice touch to many of my travel staples; among them a dark grey Pleats Please sleeveless dress in the evening, and a wide-legged khaki + white-T ensemble for strolling on the beach. I’m curious to see whether it might work with Clergerie sandals of a similar shade of siena. I’m sure there’s a Custo Barcelona purchase to go with it as well!
I’m headed to Peru in just a few days and can see this as a staple for my wardrobe during the trip! I like my travel wardrobe to be simple but chic–all I need is a good white tee, skinny jeans or pants, bright flats and a great scarf to complete the outfit. Even when dressing simple, I love to add a pop of color with flats and a scarf.
Why do I have to pick just one of you?! You all had such fun, creative answers, but the winner for this one is Mary. Thanks everyone for commenting and reading…I hope to do more contest like this in the future.

Oh I LOVE this scarf and t-shirt together! I would wear them with my cargo pants, rainbow flip flops, tousled curly hair, ray-ban sunglasses, and a summer tan!
