Cover Girl.

I spent an hour or so last night devouring the fantastic new style issue of The New Yorker that just arrived in the mail. As you’ll see, DC’s own First Lady is the cover girl. If you don’t have a subscription, I highly recommend signing up online and/or grabbing the magazine locally (I know that the mag stand at 17th & K at the Farragut North metro has them). The articles on Lanvin’s Alber Elbaz and The New York Times’ longtime street-style photographer Bill Cunningham are expertly written and inspiring in every possible way. There’s also a short piece on Michelle Obama, “Baring Arms,” by our own Robin Givhan.

Also noteworthy reading: Stylista winner and former DC-bloggerista Johanna Cox, now at Elle, is back to daily blogging with Elle Undercover. Yay!

Now, about tonight. I’m trying to finalize my own plans, which may or may not include the Going Out Gurus Happy Hour in Chinatown, this fashion event at Josephine and the Airborne Toxic show at the Black Cat. One thing is for sure, though: I will have indie designer Allison Parris, in town from New York, in tow!

    I loved the style issue too–especially the Bill Cunningham piece. However, the issue on the newstands listed the articles within and had the Michelle Obama article at the top of the list–I was disappointed to find such a short piece inside! Oh well–still lovely.

    It struck me as odd, too. The piece seemed rather thrown in. It wasn’t anything new from Givhan, though, I thought. As fabulous as they are, we’ve heard so much on Michelle’s arms recently! I get my Givhan kicks from our own Post, and there are some goodies of late. I thought these two were particularly interesting:

    Is there anywhere in DC that sells Alison Parris’ pieces? I’m in love with that coat you featured, but the online store doesn’t work…

    Sara,
    I did a run-through attempt to purchase the coat online (http://allisonparris.com/index.html), not going all the way though (as much as I wanted to!). Try again, and if that fails, drop her a line. Her email is there in the contact section of the site. She’s great over email and will get right back to you (that level of service is one reason to buy from independent designers!).

    As for selling the line here, I very much hope so. Stay tuned.
