Steampunk’d.
Thursday, December 11, 2008
You know how you learn a new word and it suddenly starts popping up all over the place? This has happened to me recently with the design genre “steampunk.” And it all started back in October with a piece of trash! Steampunk objects have a decidedly 19th century, Victorian-era England vibe and lots and lots of old-fashioned-looking gears. The Steampunk Workshop calls it the “intersection of science and romance.” Apparently I’ve loved this style for a long time and just never knew what it was. And now that I do, I’ve noticed it in quite a few places: Redeem’s current window display is steampunk-inspired, and in the just-published January issue of Lucky magazine, Creative Director Andrea Linett is “loving a look that’s a combination of Victorian and punk.” Me too, girl.
Some steampunk inspiration…..
