I'm more than a little bit obsessed with the badass style of my Sidewalk Style subject this week.

Renee Glazer for listopad: December 10

We're all familiar with designer collaborations at this point: Isaac Mizrahi for Target, Comme des Garcons for H&M....the upcoming Hayden-Harnett collab at Target (see my Sidewalk Style this week). Perhaps it's a stretch to compare them, but it is exciting to announce that a great local shop has announced a collaboration of its own: Renee Glazer for listopad (their blog is here, and they have a pop-up shop on weekends @Mercedes Bien which is upstairs next to Amsterdam Falafel in Adams Morgan).
The line will debut at a launch party December 10 from 6-9 at Napoleon Bistro. Expect Glazer's limited-edition prints on everything from dresses to jackets to tees for both men and women, with prices somewhere in the $25-$75 range. More information to come, but mark ye calendars.
Perhaps PB will score some of the first images...
In the meantime, scope Glazer's dreamy, image-laden blog. I love her appreciation for the things that often go unnoticed, and the artful way both rural and urban settings haphazardly-but-perfectly construct themselves. It reminded me to post some images I took during a recent trip home to Lexington (Virginia, not Kentucky). These were taken on the Chessie Trail, a trail that used to be a railroad that I've been walking for as long as I can remember. It was a perfect sun-streaked warm autumn day, and the air was so clean and earthy-toasty smelling and it was so quiet and I just felt, and feel, so grateful to have that in my life.

I Don’t Understand the Appeal of Wax Figures.

Tyra is making a cameo at a charity fashion show thingie on Friday! Except no wait, it's actually a wax Tyra from Madame Tussaud's! But still!
Ugh. I do not get it. Anyway, this show benefits Hoop Dreams. If anyone goes, tell Tyra to work it...just not anywhere near a heater.

I'm loving these handmade feather headbands from local etsy designer FeatherBrain, who names each style after a famous jazz musician (this is a detail shot of the Gillespie...which was apparently worn in an episode of Gossip Girl). I'm totally hooked, and there are so many cute feather options (not to mention headband color choices) that I can't decide which design I like the most! These would make a gorgeous finish to an outfit, and really, they're perfect for these chilly fall days when you want to look cute but your outfit is covered up by a coat.

FW Behind the Scenes

The new issue of FW is out! Besides a great interview with Isaac Mizrahi and ahem, some cute photos and fashion input by yours truly, it features tons of amazingly gorgeous dresses for the charity ball and inauguration season (eee!!!), including this showstopper by Pamella Roland from Saks Jandel.
The shoot was done on location at the Corcoran, and one of my favorite shots shows the model in a short taffeta number twirling around the Corcoran's breathtaking Salon Dore, easily one of the most stunning even spaces in the city. Being a fly on the wall for a fashion shoot is so interesting: the styling, the lighting considerations, the security that goes into protecting those amazing jewels (!!)...
Hear more about it today, actually like NOW...Senior Editor Betsy Lowther is online chatting about style and the new issue.

The folks at Muleh just (as in, like, 10 minutes ago) finished marking down a lot of great clothing, with the markdowns ranging from 20%-50% off. This photo is the back of a 3.1 by Phillip Lim dress, also available in brown and navy, that was $625 and is now $500 (20% off). Still not exactly cheap of course, but it sure would be great for a holiday party. The best items from the sale will get snapped up quickly, so head on in. Thanks Muleh for the pics and heads-up.
*note: the new markdowns were all women's garments, but they do have some men's sale items right now too....

Anne Marson quotes me in a story The Politico published today that addresses a key issue about working (hard) on the Hill: how to find stylish shoes that you can wear all day. For women, the idea is to still look attractive and feminine without looking like a tramp and without having to teeter around like a delicate little flower. As any woman who has suffered through a day in crippling pain from blisters knows, life is too short for uncomfortable shoes (we've all been there: once the pain starts, you'd give anything to be wearing the ugly-but-comfortable pair in the back of your closet). And really, women in Washington are too smart, too with it to deal with this sort of inconvenience. A female friend of mine from college who now works in town as a lobbyist once joked (sorta) that high heels and purses are what's hindering female progress - literally weighing and slowing us down. Wouldn't it be nice to track down shoes that are not only stylish and comfortable, but also appropriate for both work and personal life?
I make a number of suggestions in the article, but here's one that didn't get printed: get your shoes re-heeled completely! It's a good way to save cash while feeling like you're getting a completely new shoe. I once did this with a pair of tall boots that came with a ridiculous stiletto heel but an incredible sale sticker. I swapped 'em out for a stacked version at American Valet and voila, a completely wearable boot for very little money.
Some options I've been liking recently include these always-stylish Mary Janes from Clarks that have a great retro look and would look adorable with maroon, gray, or deep purple tights, these and these from Butter. And though I typically think of Ann Taylor as the Jennifer Aniston of fashion (yawwwwwn), I actually like like these little flats from Ann Taylor and these sleek tall boots. However, according to my mom, their shoes are "notoriously uncomfortable." Anyone else agree?
