Rock the Vote: Sidewalk Style

This week’s column for Washingtonian is up! There are some major opinions swirling on the footwear they’re wearing. I don’t particularly care for mandals either, but I thought they looked really clean and sorta artsy on this guy.

Last week’s column is here, if you didn’t see that one.

Hahaha..mandals. You KNOW I’m not a fan of the man sandal, but I kind of like Joseph’s sandals. I’m more opposed to things like tevas or those shoes that look like big leather upsidedown baskets for your feet. Hate those.

HATE the sandals. There are other better nicer options: spectators and white suede bucks come to mind.

From the ankles up they look nice, though. Nothing shocking or eye-catching, but nice.

Rachel, see if you can catch them on some other day when they’re not wearing something for a themed party. Do they really explode with the colors and patterns like they say? DC men could take a lesson from that.

I was talking about this with a male friend recently – are there ANY fashionably acceptable “open” shoe options for men to wear with casual pants? I don’t blame men for wanting to wear something cooler in the summer. Anybody? Anybody?

I’m afraid for me there simply are no “open” shoe options for men. None of them look good.

But I’d ask why anyone thinks we need them. They are not appreciably cooler. Maybe it’s just me, but the heat of summer doesn’t bother my feet. Head? Yeah. Torso? Yeah. But not the feet.

I’m not an expert on shoes, but the white/off-white part of spectators can be found with fabric rather than leather. I would think that breathes better.
