Much Love for DC Scout
Friday, May 2, 2008

Last night I went to DC Scout’s one-year party at Barneys Coop, late of course as I had another thingy, but I did get there in just enough time to meet Maria from Righteous (re)Style (really adorable outfit), Betsy from Fashion is Spinach (tall!), and DC Celine (strawberry-blonde lovely). Babsied was also there (cutest pregnant person ever), as was my new friend Chris, who wore a spiffy YSL suit and his signature round tortoiseshell glasses. He’s posing above with Posties Kris & Molly, who put the whole shebang together, including lovely little swag bags with mini Snow Queen vodka bottles, Hollywood Fashion Tape, OPI nail polish and all sorts of other little things that I pawed through one by one at red lights on the way home.
Chris wrote up the most adorable write-up for me to post for you all since really, I kinda missed the party itself. So if you did too, this will make you feel like you were there.
{Chris writes………}
It’s been a year since Zoey Rawlins launched DC Scout, and the style guide has really taken off like wildfire – or like me whenever Barney’s Co-Op puts Marc Jacobs on their sale rack. Coincidentally, that’s just where Zoey held her project’s first birthday.
The sounds of popping champagne corks and clacking four-and-a-half-inch heels provided a rhythm for the party that was rivaled only by the dainty resident DJ’s turntable skills.
Zoey was pretty in pink, courtesy of a pale Theory slip dress. I spoke with her over pink and crème shortbread cookies.
“This turnout proves that DC is up and coming in the style world,” she said. “There are people who came in from New York to see this. And it’s all thanks to the style blogs, the new generation of Washingtonians. Maybe it’s college students, people from all over the world who move to DC and end up staying. For whatever reason, this is becoming a fashion-centric town. We’re not just about politicians and lobbyists anymore!”
Elegant in a white Philip Lim Picot button-front shirt and Katharine Hepburn-crisp slacks, WashingtonPost.com’s fashion and beauty doyenne Janet Bennett Kelly beamed at the festivities.
“WashingtonPost.com’s style pages and DC Scout are proof that Washington has a robust fashion side,” she said. “We’re much more attuned to it. We’re so close to New York, and yet we’ve been miles apart in terms of style. But we get it now. What’s hot, what’s fresh, we’re proving that we have it and we’re here. And frankly, it’s time!”
The event’s organizers Kris Coratti and Molly Gannon ran a tight ship: the swag bags swung like bells on every bangled wrist; tiny cupcakes with pink sprinkles (delish, thanks to Firehook bakery) were placed in everyone’s hands; and shoppers and guests mixed and mingled to the jingling beats without stepping on one another’s peeptoes. Runway-ready Molly was primly chic in Plenty by Tracey Reese, and Kris took a modish turn in yellow Marc by Marc Jacobs.
The anniversary party was also an excuse for the various fashion bloggers of the 202 to travel as a pack and graze (well, gaze) at Diane von Furstenberg dresses, Theory trenches and Philip Lim’s “Go Green Go” collection.
All in all, we toasted a lovely evening, swiped a last cookie (or three, in my case – hey, I walked to work this morning) and eased into the violet hour before nightfall.
Happy birthday, DC Scout! You don’t look a day more than 6 months old.
What’s your secret?
{thanks Chris!}
…and apologies all over the place that I’ve been so absentee. Life, work & Washingtonian are keeping me oh-so busy, but talking with all of the other bloggeristas (I half hate that…I may only use it this once) has re-energized me and I WILL blog more, I will! Have a great weekend everyone!

Thanks Pam!! I wish I could go to Wink for Even Keel…I covet those pants, and Wink is such a cute store. But I’m blowing out of town, so maybe I’ll bring back some small-town fashion coverage!
