Intermix’t

Thursday, May 22, 2008

Intermix and Capitol File mag hosted a “Spring Fling” shopping event last night at the Georgetown outpost of the everything-you-want-but-can’t-afford boutique chain, all to benefit the Washington Humane Society.

Guests nibbled on sushi and sipped white & sparkling wine while admiring the clothes off and on the racks: men mixed their work basics with jeans and more than one sported an Hermes belt (it’s OK guys…happens to us ladies all the time) while many an Intermix shopgirl poured herself into the night’s hit & it dress: 2008 iterations of Herve Leger’s iconic bandage dress from the ’80s (love this description courtesy New York mag writer Amy Larocca: “a skintight series of wide elastic straps that hug the body and prop up the chest so that it might resemble ripe fruit on a shelf”).

One female attendee arrived in her own brick-red Leger dress and Dior statement shoes. As the camera shutter snapped, her husband whispered, with a mix of awe and pride, “she can hardly walk in them!”

She and other guests teetered out the door with $50 Intermix giftcards (….so that makes it only $1K!), Phyto hair products (which are great, btw) and certificates for brow and hair styling at Erwin Gomez.

That first guy looks awesome! Sometimes the moment calls for sunglasses indoors. And by sometimes, I mean mostly all the time.

But that last one? To borrow from “Go Fug Yourself,” that is a total scroll-down fug. The dress’n'cardigan combo is cute, the flower in the hair is cute, the girl and her makeup selection are cute, but the leggings? Really? Not cute. Oh and the shoes…eek.

I love the shoes. The whole ensemble is a bit Lily Allen, circa 2006 – not sure if that’s good or bad. I do love a girl that can rock red lips, though.

The girls in the middle (white and black dress and red dress) look nothing short of Vegas strip trash. Don’t care if it is Dior or Hot Topic it is still tacky.

Wait – I know that be & d bag. I once sacrificed a fresh blowout keeping that thing under an umbrella.

Does anyone else wish that ABS would make a knockoff Herve Leger? I have trie dthem on so many times and they are so amazing- maybe even $300 I could do but not $700. Swoon.

That girl in the white dress looks seriously uncomfortable. But those Dior shoes are ah-ma-zing!

littleblackdress – Not sure if they’re still in stock, but Express had a whole line of Leger knock-offs on display back in February.

Rachel, I’ve just realized who you remind me of. It’s the eponymously named Rachel Menken from “Mad Men”.

Rachel -that room was full of some serious fashion – more so than what you usually find in one room in DC. Very impressive. Great to see you too!
