I love this quirky French/librarian look (reminds me of Audrey Tatou in Amelie somehow). Her look is a mixture of stores like Abercrombie (I think that’s where she got the jacket), Aeropostale (the shirt) and her mother’s closet (the dress and headband – which might be horrible otherwise but is so, so cute thrown into this mix).

I too adore shopping in my mom’s closet. As Cami here pointed out, it’s even cheaper than thrifting! As in the case of this headband, it’s amazing what can look fresh and cool again taken out of the old context…

I love the second picture. She’s slouching in the first one…sit up straight!
    The outfit is adorable.

I agree. The outfit somehow just works. I love all of the textures and the colors and the layers. My only peeve is that the jacket is a bit ill-fitted. I can go for a shorter sleeve, I don’t mind that in a jacket but the elbow fabric being a little higher than it’s supposed to be is killing me. Then again, I’m just very picky. Otherwise, it is incredibly cute.

This girl goes to University of Maryland. I actually took a picture of her for my fashion blog back in the fall! She has amazing style.

I like her look–in that cute, buttoned up, modest way. Though it’d look better if her shirt were solid.

I also find it funny that we all refer to this sort of look at a “librarian” look, even though you’d be hard-pressed to find a librarian that dresses like this. I ride the bus every morning with two librarians (one of whom is my wife) and I know many others. None dresses anything like this. Just an observation, as I’m a big fan of the “librarian” look.

LOVE it. I’ve always wanted one of those scholarly-looking blazers with the elbow patches– I will have to see if I can find one at Abercrombie. Do you know where she got the shoes, or where I could find a pair of cowgirl boots like that?

    Hey C,
She got them at Bloomingdale’s, but I’m not sure when. I’d check out one of the online resources like Zappo’s or Amazon if I were you. If you want something in town, you might try Carbon, Wild Women Wear Red, or Shoefly (next door to WWWR). Frye is a good brand, but you’ll definitely pay out.

    There’s these:

And these, which are very traditional-looking:

It really does look French… It is a carefree look that works. I would like to see a more demure eye, an innocent look with less liner.

Great pics, Rach! The first one looks amazing, like you actually took it in Paris.

Love the pictures (especially the second one)! Her style is definitely one that draws me in. The subtleties of the outfit (i.e., her earrings are tops, lovely mix of patterns) make the ensemble really stand out. The layering of herringbone mixed with dotted and straight line patterns doesn’t create too much chaos. It actually centers the outfit…from an striking exterior fabric of herringbone to a rather mellowed straight lined blouse on the inside. Great shot again!

Also, “rdhd” raises a good point as to why this look is identified as librarian when few librarians dress this way. I recall many a librarian I have met who look a far cry from this. Not that librarians are not fashion-forward, but their style is not monolithic.
