Last weekend I attended The Washington Ballet’s Jete Society Dance Party for Washingtonian. Click on ovah heah to read and look all about it.

My favorite look of the night was Alana Harrington, above, in a dress she purchased during a recent trip to Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam.

I also thought Catalina Cabral looked refreshingly youthful and uncluttered in this short red Jessica McClintock (!) number.

Is that dress made out of belts? How cool is that? It makes me want to buy some stretchy black fabric and a bunch of rainbow-colored belts and make one to wear for next year’s gay pride. But my sewing skills aren’t that good so it would probably look like crap. :(

That first dress is very creative. But on some it could make them look..well, look not like an amateur.

And even I can’t believe that Jessica McClintock is still around. Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t that that brand all my female classmates wore to prom in the 80s? Next thing you know, it’ll be a Gunny Sack dress. Uff.

Um yeah..not really feeling the red dress looks highschool…and the dress above it is cute..but was totally not the best dress of the evening. Better luck next time

That first dress is so bizarre and I kind of love it. However, I don’t love the whole look. The shoes actually gave me a sinking feeling — not good. Also, the black nylons…ugh.

For me, with a dress like that (although I don’t think I’d want to attempt it), I’d go with bare legs and a more avant-guard shoe. Maybe even a cone heeled fold-over black leather ankle boot to play up the retro ’80s appeal of the dress.

    Beautiful girl, however.

the girl in the belt dress is fantastic. but i can’t help but imagine how long it would take to unbuckle all those belts to ger her out of it…

I used to really like this site and the diversity of style featured. I met you briefly when you took my picture in the past and you seem like a lovely person. Your blog must take a lot of time and dedication. Still I have been incredibly disappointed in the site during the last fews months. This Jessica McClintock dress is really rock bottom. Lately, this blog has more don’ts than dos. Perhaps your washingtonian photography is sending you to dull parties where there are dull people in early 90s prom dresses. Still its just not worth publishing in a style blog.

I am just sad that you are narrowing your focus on georgetown socialites which in-turn narrows your audience to georgetown socialites and leaves me out.

Looks like I will have to depend solely on Morgan for DC Fashion, and Liz for nightlife photography.

kathryn, i agree with you. this blog has kind of gone from I want to visit each day to see what’s interesting to I want to visit each day to see what’s being ridiculously posted.

If you don’t like her blog – step off for good!

I scrolled back through the last month. There are plenty of pictures representing different types styles and crowds.

Some days for this blog are clearly better than others. C’est la vie!

The pair of photographs above set into stark relief the problems confronted by any fashion blog that is reliant on DC for its images.

First is the girl sporting the unique dress that was purchased in Vietnam. Thereafter, politeness precludes me from rendering any description of the red dress.

The first girl is the epitome of fashion: she positively oozes charisma, style, and self-confidence.

The second girl…oh, how she must wish that she had the same facets. The dress and overall look is simply hackneyed! Totally bereft of imagination.

Alas, opportunities to photograph images in the mould of the second girl are simply a dime a dozen in this town. In contrast, images like the first are rare indeed: better luck sighting a African lion sporting a briefcase on K Street!!

Given the absolute paucity of opportunities to snap real fashion, the editor is at least to be commended for persevering. In the last week or so, she has been presented with two opportunities: the first girl above being one, and earlier, the girl sporting the black stockings and red coat ensemble of a few days back.

Presuming that the blog’s editor recognized those rare opportunities for what they were, it appears harsh to criticize the blog when the real issue is the absolute dearth of fashionable people in DC to photograph.

LOVE the first dress, it original and breaks the mold.
