Last weekend I attended The Washington Ballet’s Jete Society Dance Party for Washingtonian. Click on ovah heah to read and look all about it.

My favorite look of the night was Alana Harrington, above, in a dress she purchased during a recent trip to Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam.

I also thought Catalina Cabral looked refreshingly youthful and uncluttered in this short red Jessica McClintock (!) number.

MonkeySee, Monkey Wear

Feeling clueless about what to look for when buying a suit? Local custom clothier Matt Landsberg will explain what to look for. Still haven’t mastered the art of tying a bow tie? Sherman Pickey’s Ethan Drath will show you how – and you don’t even need to seek out a parking spot in Georgetown. The videos are all housed on, a new how-to video site that houses thousands of original videos that give step-by-step instructions on every topic imaginable.

Full disclosure: I do PR for MonkeySee. Not that I ever doubted their fabulousness, but I became utterly devoted when I used this video (hm….protective eyewear: the new Ray-Bans?) to change a flat tire on my car ALL BY MYSELF. I can’t tell you how good it felt to realize that as a single woman in this town, I didn’t have to rely on an expensive service or a dude to do it for me. No joke, REM’s I Am Superman popped into my head when I was finished. I even took a picture of it on my brand-new Blackberry. SO going on the fridge.

Since the MonkeySee headquarters are in NoVa, a lot of the experts on the site are local faces. In the fashion and style category, for instance, you might recognize Cindy McCartney from Diva in Old Town. And just like Metrocurean pointed out the other week, the videos are especially helpful in the kitchen, especially when the instructor is Hook’s easy-on-the-eyes Chef Barton Seaver.

Georgetown’s New Cool

On Wednesday night I found myself at the sleek new and very hush-hush private club L2 in Cady’s Alley in Georgetown. There is a Web site for L2, but you have to be a member to gain access to that as well. Check out The Post’s Going Out Gurus blog or Yeas & Nays’ review
(I think they were the first to scoop the place) to get the skinny on L2 and the other “exclusive” lounges cropping up – and don’t miss the comments below. It certainly reeks of exclusivity at the moment – you could tell that everyone there felt incredibly cool and special to have been in the room (LOTS of scoping going on). I guess that’s the point of these places….DC Magazine sponsored the party along with Imperia Vodka. They had gorgeous leggy girls (with very thick accents) passing out shot after shot of vodka, while the bartenders (there could have been more, if you ask me) mixed delish blood-orange-and-vodka drinks.

The crowd was well-dressed but certainly not risk-taking by any means in terms of dress.

It’s interesting, all these “exclusive” new see-and-be-seen places. L2 is certainly a welcome departure from the popped-collar scene more typical of Georgetown haunts, but I wonder if Washington is really “there” yet when it comes to these exclusive, members-only spots.

It Is Time to Relax.

I have been going full speed ahead lately and it is taking a toll on my body and mind! In fact, it’s 3pm and I’m sitting here at work realizing that I’ve only had a half glass of water all day and just finished scarfing down lunch that was delivered to me via Takeout Taxi. So what do I do? Why blog, of course!

What I’m dying to do is have a nice quiet weekend day. A leisurely brunch (I adore brunch. I know everyone who works in restaurants hates it but I love it as a time to socialize while eating too much bacon)…while curled up on a comfy couch with the stack of New Yorkers that have been gathering dust since the fall, and a yoga class to get back in tune with myself and relax.

Maybe this will all be possible this weekend over at U Street boutique Caramel, which is hosting a trunk show and free mini yoga class tomorrow. Caramel owner Sarah Watkins has teamed up with local designer Liz Matthews, who recently launched a line of the cutest damn yoga pants I think I’ve ever seen called Even Keel. The pants are made with a fabric blend of 70% bamboo, 25% organic cotton and 5% Spandex (no matter how green you are, you want some Spandex in there). Plus they’re all made in the good ‘ol US of A. I love the ruching and citrusy colors of the Glam Pant, above. I also um, want to be able to do that side-split headstand thing.

There’s no need to RSVP (bless you!)…no need to even bring a mat (bless you times a million!).

Just show up and relax. I think I can pencil that in.

Saturday, January 26
Trunk Show from 10:00 – 2:00 (yoga from 10:30 – 10:45)
