Talking Dirty with Richard Kern

Friday, October 26, 2007

I’m so glad that I made it out to Bourbon last night to see Richard Kern at the latest-and-greatest from The Modernist Society. What is that, you ask?! Perhaps the best summary is a quote from this Washington Post article, spoken by founder Jason Mojica:

“The Modernist Society is a celebration of multidisciplinary hedonistic individuals,” founder Jason Mojica explains by e-mail. “We mix business with pleasure. We combine brain-stimulating activities with brain-destroying ones. Our evening is for people who are, for all intents and purposes, extraordinary nerds who are just as comfortable quoting Jung as showing a little skin and dancing their ass off.”

And who is Richard Kern? Read here, and, courtesy of BrightestYoungThings.com, here and here my friends, and get all caught up. That’s right, artistic porn you can feel all good & intellectual about!! Needless to say, I was there with my friend Matt, not showing a lot of skin (it is cold) but certainly asking some racy questions (I’m proud to say that after I asked a certain one, Kern said, “Now here are the REAL questions!”) and catching up with Katerina from listopad, Svetlana & crew from BYT (below talking with Ian who you might recognize and who apparently cuts hair at Kibana in Silver Spring. Wavy hair. hmm.), writer/DJ/coolguy Ian Svenonius (doing his best Blue Steel with a DC fashionista who’s also here in the leather jacket), new friend Jenn Calloway (below in the hat and here) and hilarious girl-reporter Liz Glover who of course showed up in a fur over her beer wench/Heidi getup.

It was the kind of event that makes me really proud of how far DC has (actually) come.

OMG…is the girl pictured in the penultimate photo a member of the von Trapp family or, merely, infatuated by the Alpine chic of Julie Andrews in the Sound of Music?

Quiet, it that yodelling I can hear in the background.

So much for DC fashion ;-)

I do believe that last photo was taken at My Favorite Dress at Cafe Saint-Ex, not the Modernsit Society.
Thanks for dropping by… Want to offer us a little love?

    the holiday girl –
Yes! It was taken at the quarterly dance-party at St. Ex called My Favorite Dress. I stopped by for a little while and had a blast. Hope to make it out for more….
