I’ll be back throughout the day posting more images from Friday night’s Fashion Fights Poverty event.
First, one of my favorite outfit of the night, seen off the runway: Tara, in a structured red party dress with a subtle tulip skirt from Zara, a netted hair accessory from H&M (!), and perfect touches of red — a bold lip and that signature flash of the color on the soles of her Louboutin heels.

Treats in Old Town This Weekend

halloween treast

One of my new favorite boutiques just a hop-skip-and-a-jump away in Old Town is Treat (basically a sample sale, like all of the time). Owner Jen is just one of several boutiques offering more than just candy to please Halloween shoppers this weekend: at Treat you’ll get 10% off just-arrived, already-impressively-discounted handbags from labels like Anna Corinna and Goldenbleu. Over at Shoe Hive, you can nab shoes from Gigi Favela (which I really.want.) for 20% off, snuggle up to cashmere at Hysteria, and more more more.

Here’s the nifty little flier that, I suspect, might be a tad difficult to read. If you click here though, I think you’ll have better luck.

Trick, treat, go.

And while you’re over there, tuck into a bowl at Pho 75. I’ve been waiting for this kind of weather to fully appreciate the cheap, delish comfort food.

Talking Dirty with Richard Kern

I’m so glad that I made it out to Bourbon last night to see Richard Kern at the latest-and-greatest from The Modernist Society. What is that, you ask?! Perhaps the best summary is a quote from this Washington Post article, spoken by founder Jason Mojica:

“The Modernist Society is a celebration of multidisciplinary hedonistic individuals,” founder Jason Mojica explains by e-mail. “We mix business with pleasure. We combine brain-stimulating activities with brain-destroying ones. Our evening is for people who are, for all intents and purposes, extraordinary nerds who are just as comfortable quoting Jung as showing a little skin and dancing their ass off.”

And who is Richard Kern? Read here, and, courtesy of BrightestYoungThings.com, here and here my friends, and get all caught up. That’s right, artistic porn you can feel all good & intellectual about!! Needless to say, I was there with my friend Matt, not showing a lot of skin (it is cold) but certainly asking some racy questions (I’m proud to say that after I asked a certain one, Kern said, “Now here are the REAL questions!”) and catching up with Katerina from listopad, Svetlana & crew from BYT (below talking with Ian who you might recognize and who apparently cuts hair at Kibana in Silver Spring. Wavy hair. hmm.), writer/DJ/coolguy Ian Svenonius (doing his best Blue Steel with a DC fashionista who’s also here in the leather jacket), new friend Jenn Calloway (below in the hat and here) and hilarious girl-reporter Liz Glover who of course showed up in a fur over her beer wench/Heidi getup.

It was the kind of event that makes me really proud of how far DC has (actually) come.

Big (and sad) news that just arrived in my inbox. The release…

Unsung Designers Moves Headquarters to New York City
Huge Party and Moving Sale to Celebrate Event

WASHINGTON, DC – Unsung Designers>, the indie fashion boutique and online store, has the exciting opportunity to move its headquarters to fashion capital, New York City, in pursuit of continued success in the fashion industry.

After two years of hosting a showroom in DC, Unsung plans to move its operations completely online, and will continue to carry collections by cutting-edge, emerging designers. The closing of the showroom will not affect online orders. This forward progression will help Unsung bring in more designers from all over the world.

To celebrate this venture, Unsung will be hosting an impressive sale on all inventory in the showroom every Saturday starting on October 27. Unsung will also be open additional days on November 15 to 18 from 12 to 6 pm until its official closing on November 18.

Additionally during this week, Unsung will host its “Last Hurrah” party on Thursday, November 15. Special guests and top selling designers Verrieres & Sako will fly from San Francisco to showcase their latest fall designs and to send off the Unsung crew on their newest endeavor. This event will take place from 6 to 9 pm.

“Moving headquarters to New York City will help us grow our business” said Grace Wang, Co-Founder of Unsung Designers. “We couldn’t be more excited about this opportunity.”

According to Alishia Frey, Co-Founder, “This move will help us focus on increasing the number of innovative designers we carry, thus giving our clientele a greater selection of merchandise.”

Unsung Designers (www.unsungdesigners.com) offers underground apparel by independent designers from around the world. Its catch phrase: “protect your identity… buy unsung” reflects the owners’ objective to promote indie and anti-generica fashion. Unsung has been featured in the Washington Post, the New York Times, Lucky Magazine and Daily Candy, as well as many other publications and blogs from around the world.

###

What does this mean?

This means that you GET YOUR ASSES OVER THERE this Saturday and the other dates to a) check out the showroom if you’ve never been, b) meet alishia & grace, who are awesome, and c) score what what likely be some incredible deals on some of the most unique clothing/accessories/shoes/handbags in Washington. Guys, don’t forget that you too can rack up. Top on my personal list are any and all of the glamorous & surprisingly wearable ruched dresses from Verrieres & Sako, which I have been coveting for more than a year.

We’ll miss you ladies! And your summer spiked party lemonade!
