The bad news is that independent Hill boutique Maggie & Lola will be closing in October. The good news for all of you is that their entire inventory is 50-80% off!
Go by this weekend (Friday-Sunday 12-6) to bid the store adieu and grab armfuls of your favorites from brands like Scoop NYC, Calypso, Velvet, Julie Haus, Hudson Denim, Elizabeth McKay, Lotta Stensson, Andrea Becker, Margaret Nicole on some major cheap.

So, I thought I’d quickly give a virtual tour of Project Beltway for some of the readers who may have just heard about the site via Washingtonian Magazine (as I said yesterday, the link to the best-dressed spread isn’t up yet, so head over to a magazine stand).
I thought I’d include some of my personal favorite shots ( Hollywood, above, has appeared on the blog twice) as well as some of the dialogue that has been particularly interesting.
Without further ado….
Cheap & Chic: I titled this one “Cheap & Chic” because their clothes were both H&M finds. It’s proof that you don’t to spend a ton of money to look great. I loved his overall look: the hair, the fit of his clothes, and I’m very attracted to tattoos. She just looks radiant, and it’s because of her stance, her smile–her undeniable confidence. I ran into them a month or so later at Hirshhorn After Hours. He said he loved the photograph because it had captured their personalities: him: shy, and her: outgoing. I want my images to not just be about clothes, but the Washingtonians who wear them.
Women of Howard: This was the first real day of spring at Howard, and the Yard was a veritable fashion show, men and women alike. Fashion is a competitive sport at Howard, where everyone strives to look as unique as possible. I especially love the women because they are clearly having so much fun with it. A picture is larger than life, so you can & should pose and be outrageous. You get the sense that she completely owns her look. This is what style is all about.
The Little Things: I took this shot back in the wintertime, not long after I’d gone “live” with Project Beltway. Click the link to read about this gentleman, who you might see once in a while if you work near 14th & K, as he did at least then.
Sunday Best: I adore hats of all kinds, but I have a real thing for church hats. There’s something so precise and ladylike about them. I wish hats of all kinds were more of a wardrobe staple. It is this kind of ladylike glamour that Kackie Kennedy possessed and brought with her to Washington. This photograph was taken outside of the Vermont Avenue Baptist Church in my neighborhood in the Shaw/U Street area. Her hat has a fantastic architectural quality, and its flamboyance summons the late fashion visionary Isabella Blow.
Commenters on PB have always been outspoken. We’ve talked cleavage, weight issues, and overall DC style. In May, one redhead in a dress sparked an enthusiastic debate about the conflicts between dressing for oneself, what’s in style, and what’s attractive to the desired sex.
Please, look around & make yourself at home. As you might hear in Lexington, y’all come back!

Hey everyone,
I’m excited to announce that I’m featured in this month’s Washingtonian with 9 other gorgeous, accomplished and stylish women for their annual “best-dressed” list. The link to the spread isn’t up on their site just yet, but I won’t leave you hanging when it is, dahlings.
A bonus of the piece, other than being the star of my mother’s fridge, is that the article is bringing new eyes to Project Beltway, so on that note:
Welcome to the site!
Stay a while, window shop, speak your mind and email me your style suggestions & fashion news/events. I’m planning an addition or two to the site soon, so please save PB as a favorite. You’ll want to check back often to get your local fashion fix.
Come back tomorrow and I’ll give you a tour of some of my favorite shots.
xo
Rachel

This was a good outfit choice for this indecisive weather…the black transitions the gingham into fall.
