Yeas & Nays posted this yesterday – what do we think, PBers?

And….do you think the ring choice will have an effect on trends?

Blech. It’s too chunky and not in a good way. Too wide maybe. Too modern. Ugh, however you describe it I’m not a fan. But then again I bought my wife an antique Edwardian setting.

Frankly, this is the sort of ring I’d expect to see on Laura…or perhaps even Nancy! Has a dowdy look, not at all streamlined or elegant and, while I am a fan of unique engagement rings and think sapphires are lovely, this one just…misses the mark. But then again, there’s no accounting for taste, right? : )
Personally, I’m not a fan because I’m head over heels in love with my huge “classic” rock.
BUT, the great part about an engagement ring is that it’s a reflection of your style, your relationship, your personality. And for a girl who said to Diane Sawyer that she hates the word “fiance” I think this ring is perfect for her… And thank God for the twins who have definitely brought fun and style to DC!!
SWE said it best. The dark blue against the white just looks…not right. That combination always makes me think of rich older people who have terrible fashion sense. You see the navy blue/white combo a lot in a middle aged women’s yachting outfits. At best, it looks “sporty,” which I don’t think is an appropriate look for an engagement ring.
I hope if I ever get engaged that my partner has rdhd’s sensibilities when it comes to picking out a ring.
Not my style… my vote would have gone towards a Tiffany’s Legacy ring, then again, I’m boring.
I think the ring works for her but with a wedding band, I have a feeling it would just look hein. I agree with whoever said it looks too wide. It’s more of a right hand celebration ring than an engagement ring, but if she likes it then that’s all that really matters.
The current trend is for more of a cushion/pillow cut, sometimes circled with very minutae diamonds (although I think that’s a fad that will die off). Coming from her family’s background? Texas? She should have gone for FL clarity with a lot of carats behind the center stone, flanked by two slightly smaller carats. Something to dazzle the bubble heads of Houston. Something to silence gossiping shopgirls at Neiman’s. In other words…a RING. There’s something fusty and past tense about sapphires right now. If she needed blue, she should have gone with a blue diamond (colored stones have higher value). My God. JLo got a bigger ring from Blahflek when they were dating. A more valid point is, does she check his cell phone favs and who he’s been calling? Those texts could be Exhibit A in a pricey divorce down the road. What? You think men engaged to be married don’t have something going on the side? Think again.
I’m pretty sure this is a ring from Tiffany’s. It’s gorgeous in person. Truly an eye-catcher because of the contrast between the white diamond and the royal blue stones, especially when it catches the light–something it clearly didn’t do in the above photo. The Tiffany’s web site photo is much clearer: http://www.tiffany.com/expertise/engagement/engagement.aspx?style=three&ring=sapphire_side
Anyway, I quite like it actually.
You all do know it’s Tiffany (no S) singular right?
I thought it was his grandmother’s ring? I think couples should choose rings that have a significance to *them*, not to please other people. If Jenna Bush wants to wear a candy machine ring because it’s significant to her, more power to her. If Houston or DC wants big rings they can buy them for themselves.
The Post today has an article about the couple, in which it says that “He proposed with his great-grandmother’s ring, which he had reset.”
This ring is a classic, a traditional style very popular in the South. As a family piece it has a lot more meaning than just another ring from Tiffany seen on every other housewife in Potomac.
eeek. so I was just searching for “engagement rings” on your site (just cuz) and found this. I’m a wee bit o the dismayed to see that *I* like sapphires and diamond and so does Jenna.
i like a bit more personality but eh, whatevs. still. did i just become a republican? sound of puppies dying.
