The black-and pink bra peeking out was intentional–a way to add a little spice to the sugar. She had the confidence to pull it off.

Sorry I couldn’t post this on Friday…I was too excited by my two great vintage scores (oversize croc clutch for $9 and Fall-ready blue & white wool dress for $40-something) to remember to transfer my pictures.

The shopping party was the result of a collaboration between Miss Mercedes, who’s been on the DC vintage scene for some 25 years, and the ladies of Listopad, who have, well, some of the most unique and wearable vintage in the city. Kath & Cata plan to host more shopping events in the future. I’m excited to see what they have up their cool vintage sleeves.

The vibe at the party was so laid-back, like a gathering at a friend’s cool Adams Morgan townhouse (complete with really, really good guacamole). “This is SO cute” was heard over and over again by female shoppers, and apparently the guys were happy with their selection, though I have to admit that I was too distracted to check it out myself.

So ditch your H&M habit and go get the original thing!

Think Runway, Shop Beltway: Bailey, Mid-City Thursdays

If you’re planning to head over to the U Street/Adams Morgan area after work today for the Mercedes Bien Vintage event (which may be insanely crowded since the Post’s DC Scout picked it up on Tuesday), you might also wanna take advantage of the sales going on for Mid-City ThursdaysEVERY Thursday! As Supporter of Small Business points out, big chains have the money to quash small businesses and remove much-needed character from our fair city. So if you want to own unique items at fair prices and support cool indie boutiques, you should know about Third Thursdays.

Shopping locally is sort of the point of Think Runway Shop Beltway anyway….so if you’re a local designer or shop owner, I hope you’ll drop me a line!

Speaking of independent designers….
PB friend Bailey Handbags is offering PB readers a 30% discount (enter discount code SHOPBAILEY at checkout) through the end of July on her line of leather clutches, hobos, satchels & totes. I love the James Satchel in Midnight, and the Parker Tote looks like the perfect work-to-play bag (it’s currently sold out, but if you contact designer Lauren Bailey directly, I bet she can make you happy).

BAILEY
Use code SHOPBAILEY
Through July 31

His suit was from Benetton and tailored at Do’s in Georgetown (better store name than Don’ts, for sure). The result, especially for the jacket, was a really nice nipped-in fit. This guy only entrusts his clothes to Do’s…anyone have a particularly fabulous tailor to recommend?

Retail Wooing is the New Relationship

Project Beltway

I’m all about all forms of wooing (hand-written declarations of devotion, thoughtfully planned dates, and slightly-nerdy-but-brave-men wielding boomboxes blasting In Your Eyes by Peter Gabriel). Since none of these things ever seem to happen, I’ll settle for cupcakes, lunch, and free manicures from my friends-with-retail-benefits at CUSP this month.

TOMORROW NOON – 2: Ladies & gents, don’t bother bringing lunch to work tomorrow if you’re of Circulator-distance to CUSP’s Georgetown location.

FRIDAY JULY 20; 1:00 – 4:00 PM: CUSP Birthday Party. Expect cupcakes and “pampering.” Mystery pampering is fine with me.

THURSDAY JULY 12 & JULY 26; 5:00 – 8:00 pm: CUSP After-Work Party. Expect complimentary Chanel nail polish “changes” (does this mean I need to slap some nail polish on before I go?) and makeup “touch-up service” from Jemma Kidd and Bobbi Brown cosmetics.

3030 M Street NW
