Great pic…….Jo you truly
are gorgeous
She is, isn’t she?:)
She is obviously quite stylish and I’ll give her the skirt. Most people couldn’t pull that off but I hate the shirt. She is too busty for a gathered neckline…atleast of that high cut. Makes her look “swim teamish.” A lower neckline or simple crew neck t-shirt with cap sleeves would have better suited her. It would take away from the “top heaviness.”

It took seeing this picture for me to realize that with the high-waisted skirt, I absolutely can NOT rock the gathered top. With a lower waistline, my “top heaviness” doesn’t look so “top heavy.” But here, yikes, you’re sooo right. Top retired.
And Rachel, don’t know about you, but I was “excused” – er, didn’t get caught – for taking such a long lunch
Wowsers Johanna!
Way to be a sport and take the good, the bad, and the gathered comments.
Very refreshing…not sure I would have taken the critiques so well. Cheers to you and your ability to rock the high-waisted skirt.

I think the creases in the lower tummy area of the cute skirt indicate that it is too tight. I would also say that her with her heavy legs she should consider hemming up that skirt and tack on a seamless bra. I would also run a brush through her hair.
The shoes are very cute.
It sounds harsh but I know she can take it.
Libby-
Actually, the skirt really isn’t too tight. The creases come from the fabric being sateen cotton (i.e. a material that shows *every* wrinkle) compounded from having spent the entire afternoon sitting behind a desk all day.
“heavy legs” – um, okay. Not sure where you’re getting that from, but I’m not going to defend against an attack when I don’t think you have the full story — if you want to reconvene at a later time after you’ve been over to my blog and looked up the March 7th posting or perhaps the March 29th one, I’m game. Don’t feel bad if you feel a bit foolish afterwards. I’ll accept your apology.
The bra is a seamless Ipex from VS – you can see the seams because I was standing in direct 2pm sunlight.
The hair – you’ve got a point. Shoulda pulled it back.
The shoes are my favorite! thanks for the compliment!
best,
J
Whoa…Someone can sure dish it out on this blog…
I checked out the postings you referenced from your blog. I don’t feel foolish at all – the picture above does not make your legs look attractive. I will assume that it is the picture.
I own the 3.1 Philip Lim Rosette skirt you mentioned in your 3/7 posting. It does the same crinkling you mentioned- I get it.
I don’t know much about fashion but I do know when someone looks great and is very attractive
and Jo is the real deal that much I know……..
I think she looks wonderful! I like the high wasted skirt – its slimming and the top showcases your assets, shoes are great as well. Speaking from a gentleman’s point of view, your great figure and nice ankles would definitely get my attention
Johanna’s look=tres chic. But, I would have thrown in a punch of colour, because her outfit is very much on the safe side and perhaps what you would expect see on the mannequin in the stores. A little personality would have taken it a lot farther. Love the shoes.
the directly overhead lighting is the major factor in many of these comments (eg “top heavy”, its having the same effect on her eyes and cheeks). dressing may be the first part of fashion, but lighting is what makes or breaks it. rachel, where was your little assistant with the pop out fill reflector when you needed him?
Simply beautiful!
I find the entire outfit to be charming and well put together. I do not see heavy legs or a too-tight skirt. Johanna, you look great and thank you for the fantastic comments regarding my dress. I’m the cheap and chic redhead.
Just because I’ve noticed a lot of compliments on my shoes, I thought I’d give you the website on which I found them for $40 less than Zappos sells them:

They run a little big, too, so I’d go a half-size down.
Thanks for all the constructive criticism!
Awhile ago, Johanna posted that “A girl with calves that size should know to not to wear a hem that hits below the knee. Or even *at* the knee.” I read this and the first thing that came to mind was that I am in a conservative profession, and I couldn’t wear a skirt that hit above the knee if I was off to work. I guess obviously you can’t always follow that rule, and based on Johanna saying she has thicker calves (not an insult, that is the mark of running/working out, from what it looks like) she probably knows that.
The only other issue is that since you should flatter your form, I think both the top and the skirt don’t play up her assets. The skirt is high waisted and attracts attention to the bust instead of her slender waist.
nice skirt & cute shoes
