That’s what I’m sayin’. Except for a few pairs of nice work pants that came from Express or the Victoria’s Secret catalog, my entire wardrobe is from Forever 21, Target, or H&M.

They are cute but half of it is them…not sure if the clothes matter as much when you are good looking and appear confident and comfortable.

I’m sorry, but I don’t get it as they don’t even look like they’re going to the same place let alone being a couple. She looks completely put together and he looks like he rolled out of bed and picked up what was on the floor on the way out the door. And how old is he? Why is he still dressing like he’s on a date in High School? You ladies put up with too much in this town. Beautiful women with guys that dress like mooks… Sigh.

I had the same thought, KKC.

Just *another* reason why I prefer dating older men — they’re generally much more attuned to the nuances of complementary dress, not to mention overall mannered behavior. If I have to physically move a 20-something guy to the outside of me as we’re walking down the street or hold one back so I can exit the elevator first one more time, I’m going to scream!

But back to the picture — this woman is shockingly beautiful, cute outfit or not.

i know them and love them.
the only thing that could have made this photo more adorable is being able to see Jessica’s freckles in all their glory.

cute dress and shoes! and haha – i don’t think they look out of place together at all! it’s kind of the best part of being into clothes – dressing up a little bit when you feel like it and not needing your bf/gf/anybody else to give you context with their outfit. and he seems to be doing pretty well for himself – his clothes all have a nice fit and he even matches. can you really your boyfriend for more than that!?!

Well, there you go Johanna. One evening in the city I’m at a sidewalk table watching beautifully dressed women with guys in baseball caps and cargo shorts and then I caught myself in the window and I was that guy too. I’m sorry, but I still say she looks like she’s going to dinner and he’s going to the Black Cat. Dressing down is once thing and dressing up dressing down completely another, but if you’re going to wear something that says “why bother” then you shouldn’t bother at all.

Some posters are missing the point. They’re going to a comic book store, not a State Dinner. They seem to be comfortable in their own skin, which is all that matters.

Looks like Caroline and all of the other cheap-thrill-fashion enthusiasts (myself included) can expect to be wooed by a soon-to-launch boutique line from Forever 21. Thankfully the prices still won’t wear out the wallet:

    Johanna:

If you spent half the time on your blog as you spend here yours would be worth reading.

    Lones-

If you want to criticize my blog, do it on my territory — don’t bring it to Rachel’s.

Ummmmmm, Lones, if you don’t like the broadcast change the channel, otherwise get a life.

    I’m just sayin’

Points well taken BUT, what happens when you’re hard on clothes and have to replace them often? My lady spends a lot more on individual pieces than I do. She’s tops and dresses from Anthropologie, I’m suits from H&M & Zara. However, quality shoes, socks, ties, belts, watches, etc are where I tend to spend more. Those details can cost many times what my cheapish suits cost (and $250 is still considered a lot for many men). Because I have bespoke suits as well, nobody is the wiser and I don’t have to worry about damaging a $2000 investment. Building an “adultish” wardrobe of 10 or 12 suits can be costly. It’s all about mix-n-match, rotation, and having *some* sense of style to begin with.
