Welcome to a special locked & loaded edition of Think Runway, Shop Beltway. These shirts aren’t a District item, but they were too hard to resist considering the recent repeal of the District’s handgun laws. The chick-with-gun thing is a little seven years ago (I mean the T-shirt–of course it has crystals, yawn. But some might argue that DC is behind in terms of fashion as well as gun laws, so this is more appropriate than I realized.), but I kinda dig the shirt for the dudes.

The descriptions for the shirts are the best part! Meant to be ironic, they take on a really funny twisted irony when considered within the context of the repeal. The description for the women’s shirt tells us that “nothing says American values better than a gun-toting bad girl.” The guys are encouraged to nurture their “inner conspiracy theorist,” and “upset your godless, spray-on-tan frosted friends (this is an LA company…we uhh, don’t have a lot of frosty guys here) with this unabashed celebration of American individualism.” The collection is called…love this…American Exceptionalism.

Welcome to Washington, where we may not be able to vote or quit wearing sneakers with skirtsuits, but we can shoot your a*s.

The girl on the right is making hideous eighties sneakers cool. I always admire stuff that other people can pull off that I completely can’t.

If I were pregnant (good thing I’m not since I can barely take care of myself) I’d totally want her little jacket, which she’d found at Anthropologie.

I thought the styling of this coat/jacket was really cool, and I liked the white piping on her glasses. I wish I’d asked her more about the coat, but it seemed like it was a light “puffer” but done in leather.

A New Meaning for “On the Street.”

His pose with his hand in his pocket suits his vibe just right. I didn’t look at the photo closely until later and so I didn’t see the homeless person in the background watching us. All at once, it makes me feel weird and kind of bad, but that the picture is better and more interesting because of it.

This young man’s ease and confidence are in stark contrast to the watcher in the background, who is just as much the subject here. Neither I nor the guy I was taking the shot of noticed the homeless woman–the ironic point here–but now we can’t walk past or turn our heads…we’re forced to notice.

She’s just wearing a hoodie and a scarf, pretty basic weekend uniform, but all of the patterns–together with the brightly patterned bag–make for a visually interesting effect. The hoodie is Free People and the scarf is from Argentina. The bag is from a boutique from her hometown in Kansas.
