Girls Gone Glam Event for Dress for Success

Just when you thought DC didn’t care about fashion, I found myself hopping to two different fashiony events last Thursday, and this didn’t even include Capitol File’s Versace bash. First stop was Girls Gone Glam at Hotel Monaco, a shopping event to benefit the local chapter of Dress for Success. Tons of vendors including Wink, Alex, and new consignment boutique Cellar Couture set up booths with some of their finest offerings. The silent auction in the center of the room was impressively stocked, though it seemed that the crowd was more interested in chatting, checking out one another’s outfits and taking advantage of the free drinks than buying or bidding.

He had a zillion different team names emblazoned on his jacket, but this fan is loyal–his favorite team is the Wizards.
Congrats are in order, of course, to another home team, the Georgetown Hoyas!

Apres Peau event for Innocents at Risk

The other night I ventured over to Apres Peau, the fabulously well-edited gift shop owned by dermatologist allstar Tina Alster. Tina (above) is totally stylish and definitely part of a certain “social set,” which thank God in Washington usually means you’re smart and a leader in your field. Tina is easily one of the most gracious, genuine, and down-to-earth women I’ve recently met. And she’s smart as hell. She was featured in New York Times yesterday as a matter of fact…

I love their jackets. Don’t they look like friends Ina Garten might have over to her Hamptons home for a classy clambake?! The pattern is traditional but the oversized scale makes it cool. I especially dig the suit on the right.

DC’s Answer to David Beckham?

On Tuesday night, I trotted out to the launch party for BobbyBoswell.com, the aptly named blog for the DC United star and Major League Soccer Defender of the Year. Who, according to his blog, is not just good at soccer, but also “really, really, ridiculously good-looking”…sound like anyone else in the profession? The party at PLAY Lounge drew a decent crowd of young hotties and Victoria wannabes: guys either wore casual, sporty gear (mostly Boswell’s fellow teammates) or jackets and jeans; girls wore party dresses or some variation on the JACT (jeans-and-a-cute-top).

Bobby with his very own Posh Spice Katherine Kennedy, who found her dress at C-Mart, the newly opened discount goldmine in Maryland. I still haven’t been, but Katherine and I plan to hit the racks soon. Apparently a friend of Miss Kennedy’s bought the same dress for a bajillion dollars at Intermix for full price. Oh, the victory of having found an item on the cheap that someone you know paid full price for!

This girl found her dress at Nordstrom (I think in the BP section…which is where I once accidentally stole a pair of sunglasses and then exchanged them for a new pair when they broke. Great return policy!). She clearly knows how to pose. This is a lesson for every girl out there: hand on the smallest part of the waist, most of hand grasping your front, especially when facing the camera full-on. She’s actually more on the hip, but the idea is similar. Just sayin.’

It’s amazing how easily a pocket square transforms an outfit. I do love a good pocket square! His shirt reads Roots and is from the Canadian store by that name. Apparently the brand is kinda like Old Navy here; there are a few outposts of it in the U.S. (in places like Aspen, Beverly Hills…and Ketchum, Idaho!?).

Reader, meet Marshall from the District Line. If you want some cool gear that’ll separate you from the Happy-Hour-Steves, you need to go to the District Line in Adams Morgan and talk to this guy. His jacket, a modern version of the classic pinstripe, is by Brit label Merc.
